At APS-Germany in Gescher, seven students have the opportunity to rethink a part of the circular economy: with the help of AI, the testing process for reconditioned truck parts is to be taken to the next level.
APS-Germany specializes in the reconditioning of used truck parts under the rema.Germany brand. Each used part undergoes strict testing processes and must meet the highest quality standards – severely damaged parts, such as those with cracks in the housing, are sorted out.
This process is time-consuming. This is exactly where the project comes in: over the next eight weeks, the students will develop a prototype – an image-processing AI that digitally supports the testing process. The biggest challenge: training the AI to recognize when a component can still be reconditioned – and when it cannot.
The project thus has a dual focus on the future: Sustainability, because reconditioning saves energy and raw materials and reduces CO₂. Digital transformation, because processes that were previously reserved for humans are being rethought through AI.
We are excited to see the results!
